SOMonthly is an inclusive ensemble that welcomes all saxophonists. We meet on a monthly basis with an extra rehearsal before a big concert. It is recommended that members are at least grade 4 standard (grade 5/6 for soprano players) in order to get the most out of the group. If you are of a lower grade or wish to simply build your confidence in a group setting, you may be better suited to our Training Band.

We aim to do two main concerts a year in addition to other events such as concerts on a bandstand, Christmas carolling and social events such as going out for a meal, drinks or going to concerts (as audience members).

*the September rehearsal will be a play day with the Sunday Boys, an LGBTQ+ Low Voice Choir from Manchester. We will spend the day at the Alderley Edge Festival Hall from 11am - 4.30pm. The Play Day will also feature a workshop with a composer who has been commissioned to write a piece of music for Sax Orchestra and Low Voice Choir.

If you’ve never played at a SOM event before, your first rehearsal is free. If you join part way through the term, your subs will be at a reduced rate

*We also run a “pay it forward scheme.” There is no obligation to pay into the scheme. If you feel that you would benefit from financial support, please speak to Saira (conductor) in confidence.
